Dr. Shana Blackman, DPT is the owner of MyPT. Shana graduated with a Bachelors of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse. Shana enrolled in the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and completed her Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2011. Her career in Physical Therapy, began working for Aurora Sports Physical Therapy in Downtown, Milwaukee. In 2016, Shana became certified in Trigger Point Dry needling through IAOM (International Association of Orthopedic Medicine), and incorporates this as an adjunctive treatment to her techniques as a Physical Therapist.
Over the last 10 years, Shana has utilized a diverse approach to treating youth, high school, college and aging athletes alike. Through ergonomic training, hands on techniques, functional strengthening, stretching, dry needling, education, and neuromuscular retraining, Shana believes in addressing the complete patient. Her focus is to treat pain and dysfunction of all areas of the body. Special interests include assessment and treatment of jumping, throwing, and running athletes for improving pain, but also for injury prevention and preparing the body for performance improvement.
The philosophy of MyPT comes from Shana's belief that just as we establish a Medical Doctor, Chiropractor and Dentist, we should also know who our Physical Therapist is! Instead of waiting for "aches and pains" to require a visit to the Doctor, Shana believes in preventing the onset or progression of injury. By establishing your Physical Therapist, you lay the foundation for creating healthy and pain free activity throughout your life. This approach saves time away from activities, money, and decreases limitations to reaching your goals.
Dr. Cathy Walls has been a physical therapist since 2006. After finishing her Master’s of Physical Therapy degree in 2005 from St. Louis University, she moved to Milwaukee and began her career in outpatient sports medicine orthopedics. While practicing full time, Cathy completed her Doctorate degree from St. Louis University in 2012. Throughout her career, Cathy has focused her skills on manual therapy, functional mobility and strength training, and injury prevention.
Cathy applies her background as an athletic trainer as well to assist with sport-specific biomechanical training. As an avid runner herself, Cathy’s passion to help runners perform their best led to the development and implementation of the Aurora Sports Medicine Performance Running Program, which she oversaw for 8 years. She is excited to be joining MyPT because of the values the company has established. Great care is received when a patient and therapist can collaborate as a team. MyPT allows for a comprehensive and holistic approach, giving each patient an individualized, one-on-one approach. She is excited to utilize her expert knowledge in the field of physical therapy to bring health and happiness to her patients and be able to become YOUR PT.
Cathy lives in Wauwatosa with her husband, Nick and three sons, Ethan, Isaac, and Bennett. When she is not working, you can find her on the sidelines of MANY soccer games or coaching her son’s basketball team. Cathy continues to enjoy running and exploring all the beautiful terrain Wisconsin has to offer.

Orthopedic injury is a broad term that encompasses strains, sprains, muscle tears, and sometimes fractures. MyPT not only evaluates the injury itself, but then addresses the limitations that resulted.
Determining the "why" of the injury, allows you to minimize risk of future injury. Education, hands on care, corrective exercises and guidance for activity modification will allow you to function at your best. Improving your quality of life and empowering you to be the best you can be.
Running for many people is a time to quiet the mind while working the body. When a runner is injured, it not only limits their time on the road, but their time for self reflection and wellness.
Injuries are often ignored so that we can continue to run, but over time we either accept the constant nagging pain, or we reach a point where we have to stop completely.
The goal of a running mechanical evaluation is to determine the strengths and opportunities for a runner to improve their running form in a way that will limit injury, foster injury recovery, and also improve the overall efficiency of your body while you run!
This is not just for the injured runner, but any runner that wants to keep running pain free long term.
At MyPT we want to keep you on the road!
Dry needling is an excellent adjunct to most other therapeutic treatments. Dry needling treatis very different from acupuncture, except for the use of acupuncture needles.
Dry needling works by placing a dry needle into a muscular "trigger point", to release the tissue. Active and latent trigger points can restrict proper movement, increase pain, and limit range of motion.
By releasing these deep restrictions, Dry needling offers a variety of benefits in chronic and acute musculoskeletal conditions.
Aches and pains are your body's way of telling you that something is wrong. So often we ignore these daily issues due to time constraints and because, "it's not that bad". This often results in chronic pain, which limits our activities and decreases our quality of life. The truth is that most people CAN feel better AND move better without medication. MyPT evaluates the "why" of chronic pain, and then develops a plan to create better habits, decrease compensations, and greatly improve your level of pain.
MyPT addresses the needs and goals of each individual athlete through a comprehensive and meticulous evaluation of mechanics, strength, flexibility and control.
Designing a focused plan to address the skills and movement patterns, is necessary to excel in the sport of your choice.
This approach benefits all ages and ability levels, from little leaguers to college athletes AND aging athletes to weekend warriors.
When the foot contacts the ground, it influences the position and impact on structures throughout the leg, the hip and the low back. Custom foot orthotics is just ONE treatment option to manage symptoms created by poor foot position on the ground. Common issues influenced by poor foot position include: foot pain, knee pain, hip and low back pain.
Custom orthotics are not necessary for everyone with these symptoms, but can be beneficial for some individuals to decrease pain and improve movement.
This service includes a complete biomechanical evaluation of your foot movement, a detailed physical examination and foam impression for construction of your orthotics.
